Comunicación móvil y adulto mayor: exclusión y uso desigual de dispositivos móviles

Resumen

Este artículo presenta parte de un estudio que examina la manera en que los adultos mayores integran las tecnologías de comunicación móvil a sus prácticas cotidianas. A partir del análisis de entrevistas en profundidad, aplicadas a 10 adultos mayores de Concepción, Chile, se informa de los factores que determinan un uso desigual de estas tecnologías entre los participantes. Los resultados señalan que las dificultades y desigualdades en el uso de las tecnologías de comunicación móvil están relacionadas a múltiples factores: nivel de escolaridad, experiencia laboral y nivel socioeconómico se combinan con inseguridades y miedos por falta de instrucción apropiada, vinculada a la tecnología. Además, las dificultades surgidas a partir del deterioro físico y cognitivo propio de la edad, como pérdida de visión, de motricidad fina y de memoria, se acentúan por la inexistencia de dispositivos y aplicaciones móviles diseñados para responder a las características particulares de este grupo etario.
