Reimaginando Europa: imaginarios locales, afectos y la espinos cuestión de una identidad continental [Edición bilingüe: español – inglés]

Imaginar a Europa es una tarea mucho más ardua de lo que aparenta, podríamos decir que más que nunca, en la actual coyuntura histórica. Este artículo apunta a realizar una pequeña contribución a lo que parece ser un cada vez más desconcertante y polifacético (aunque en modo alguno nuevo) debate en relación al significado de ser – o más bien, de sentirse – europeo en el momento actual: momento que puede ser descrito como una “crisis” en la cual grietas internas que se propagan a través de la tela continental han llevado a un nuevo atrincheramiento de fronteras internas (léase: nacionales) que han resurgido de manera sorpresiva y han generado fatiga sobre aquello que el filósofo político Jurgen Habermas denominó las posibilidades de una “constelación posnacional”. Tomando como caso de estudio un conjunto de expresiones culturales que se vinculan con la identidad europea en imaginarios locales a través de la presentación de figuras espectrales (ausencias presentes que denotan un amplio rango de construcciones sociales de invisibilidad) en el espacio público, este artículo busca dilucidar la importancia de la dimensión experiencial y afectiva del ser – siendo “ser”, en este caso, (re)calibrado como “sentirse” o “devenir” – europeo. Este objetivo tiene dos aspectos: primero, considerar cómo las nociones teóricas que conforman la idea de afecto y de “giros” espectrales en las humanidades y las ciencias sociales se interconectan, ofreciendo una aproximación fructífera a una mejor comprensión de la forma en que los individuos imaginan a Europa desde una posición subjetiva y local; segundo, cómo las interacciones experienciales y afectivas que se producen por medio del acto de ver o leer las obras de arte en cuestión estimulan nuevos caminos para cultivar lazos empáticos para un nuevo sentido de comunidad, contribuyendo así a un cambio paradigmático en relación a la identidad colectiva. Los artistas principales que se citan son los siguientes: escultores, Bruno Catalano, David Cerny y Lorenzo Quinn; el colectivo de performance Empathy Museum; autor, Antonio Muñoz Molina.
