¿Qué es el hormigón arquitectónico?

En los últimos años, el denominado “HORMIGÓN ARQUITECTÓNICO” se ha vuelto protagonista dentro de los procesos constructivos relacionados con el hormigón armado como material de expresión arquitectónica. Sin embargo, como se trata de un concepto relativamente nuevo, existe desconocimiento y confusión, entre los profesionales del área, sobre lo que implica realmente este proceso. Consecuentemente, esto se manifiesta en incertidumbre al momento de ejecutar una obra, con la insatisfacción de las expectativas para el proyectista y mandante.
Dado este contexto, la contribución de esta investigación es contribuir a aclarar sobre la apropiada implementación del hormigón arquitectónico. Las obras de hormigón requieren del conocimiento de las características del material, por parte de los constructores y proyectistas (Constructividad, Stewart Adams, 1990). Esto toma mayor fuerza en aquellas que se han definido con expresión en hormigón arquitectónico. Este trabajo ayuda a difundir este proceso en el contexto del denominado “arte de la buena construcción”. Más aún, si este artículo se encuentra respaldado por la experiencia arquitectónica del autor, particularmente en el diseño, administración de los contratos, y control durante la ejecución de las obras, como también con su experiencia de usuario en edificios de tales características.
