Abstract

The use of polymer-based household waste in the wearing course of a flexible pavement on low-traffic volume roads, both urban and rural, has been under analysis through various techniques in recent years. However, there is not enough data available regarding cases where the waste is used to form the intermediate and coarse fractions of the aggregate to be employed. In the present study, hot mixtures of household polymer waste and soils are developed to produce pieces of a size that, when crushed, result in an aggregate suitable for road use, which is currently undergoing patenting procedures. With this aggregate, a cold asphalt concrete is designed and subjected to a series of analyses presented in the article. The conclusion draws parameters on the physical and mechanical properties of the asphalt mixture, delineating the field of application of the developed artificial aggregate for the stated purpose.
