Ideologías lingüísticas: hacia una aproximación interdisciplinaria a un concepto complejo
Abstract
The notion of language ideology has been widely used in the study of the speakers‘ ideas about languages. Notwithstanding, the concept has dark zones that has not been tackled sufficiently in the theoretical propositions on the matter. This work outlines that these undeveloped aspects must not be seen as insurmountable limitations, but as an opportunity to establish an interdisciplinary approach to the speakers‘ ideas about languages. By this way, with sociology of language as a starting point, combining the notion of language ideology with the theory of social representations it is suggested. Language ideologies thus are comprehended as systems of social representations about the linguistic market, the speakers and the relations language-culture and language-identity, which support the status quo of the sociolinguistic relationships, or defy this one in order to modify it.
